Redefining What’s Possible….

...We Turned
Criticism into

Innovation...

Mahindra Accelo’s metamorphosis—from a conventional steel processor to a dynamic, technology-driven leader—began with an unexpected spark. In 2015, Mr. Sumit Issar, Managing Director of Mahindra Accelo Limited (formerly known as Mahindra Intertrade Limited), found himself at a crossroads that would fundamentally change our Company’s course.

During a high-stakes meeting with a senior executive of a leading Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Issar and his team were eager to discuss a strategic partnership. The atmosphere was cordial, professional—until a single remark changed everything.

What could have been brushed off as a casual job became a call to action. Issar and his team did not retreat in the face of this dismissal; they embraced it. They chose to redefine their trajectory, to outgrow their past and rise as a technology-led partner in the automotive ecosystem. This was no longer about processing steel—it was about crafting the future.

"At the end of the day, you're just a patra cutter,"

the Executive said, dismissing Mahindra Accelo with a word that reduced our Company to a mere steel sheet processor.

… An Innovation that
Turned Us into Industry

Leaders...

1945

Mahindra Accelo’s transformation is best understood through its origins. The Mahindra Group’s journey began when Mahindra & Mohammed—later Mahindra & Mahindra—started as a steel trading company, importing steel coils from Britain to fuel the industrial aspirations of a newly independent India.

1951

Our Company’s alliance with Japan marked the dawn of a transformative partnership, one that would blossom into four key joint ventures under the Mahindra Accelo brand.

1991-1993

The winds of India’s economic liberalisation in 1991 ushered in a new era of opportunity. In 1993, Mahindra Accelo (then Mahindra Intertrade) seized this moment by establishing India’s first independent steel service centre in Kanhe, near Pune. Partnering with Japanese titans Mitsubishi Corporation and Nissho Iwai Corporation (now part of Metal One Corporation), our Company revolutionised steel processing, supplying manufacturers with premium-grade materials and laying the groundwork for future innovations.

2007

Mahindra Accelo reshaped the automotive landscape with the introduction of India’s first blanking line at its Nashik facility. Before this game-changing innovation, automotive manufacturers had to manage blanking internally—vigorously cutting steel into exact shapes for vehicle components. By taking on this intricate task, Mahindra Accelo not only freed OEMs from a time-consuming process but also unlocked new levels of efficiency, cost savings, and product quality.

…Leading to

Break Barriers…

The defining moment of change arrived in 2015. Mahindra Accelo made a strategic leap into high-strength automotive steel, positioning itself closer to becoming a Tier 1—or what Sumit Issar describes as a ‘Tier 0.5’—supplier. Their cutting-edge Plant near Chakan, Pune, was among the first in India equipped to process high-strength steel, a material integral to modern vehicle safety and lightweight design.

Determined to push beyond material processing, Mahindra Accelo invested in advanced high-speed presses—both progressive and tandem lines—to manufacture automotive components. These automated production lines, among the most sophisticated in India, enabled the Company to produce skin panels, which are typically manufactured in-house by OEMs. The introduction of automation was a game-changer, allowing for seamless coil feeding, die changes, and optimised production with minimal human intervention.

…Breaking Barriers to a USD 1 billion

Vision…

Traditionally, India’s tier-2 automotive component sector has relied on fragmented, labour-intensive pressing operations. Mahindra Accelo sought to break this mold with its state-of-the-art 3,000-tonne transfer press line, designed for efficiency and scalability. “With this press, every stroke delivers a finished component,” explains Sumit Issar. Operating at 20-25 strokes per minute, this technology enhances both precision and speed—vital in a competitive USD 73 billion auto component industry.

Initially

Mahindra Accelo’s advanced press line goes beyond steel, seamlessly processing aluminium to meet the auto industry’s growing demand for lightweight materials. This strategic move aligns with the industry’s drive for enhanced efficiency and sustainability.

Targeted

Mahindra Accelo has set its sights on the body-in-white segment—those essential structural components that form the very backbone of a vehicle. With a goal to capture 30-40% of this USD 8.4 billion market within the next five to six years, we are not just aiming for growth, but for a seismic shift in the automotive supply chain. Moving beyond individual components, Mahindra Accelo is evolving into a powerhouse of fully assembled modules, a transformation that promises to reshape the future of India’s automotive manufacturing space.

Currently

Currently, Mahindra Accelo processes 6,00,000 to 7,00,000 metric tonnes of steel annually—on par with the output of a small blast furnace or electric steel plant. But this is just the starting point. With a clear-eyed five-year strategy, we aim to more than double our capacity, targeting over over 1.5 million metric tonnes. “We are on track to touch USD 1 billion in revenue within the next two to three years,” the leadership asserts, highlighting a growth trajectory that defies the ordinary.

…A Vision that will Drive the

Future…

A defining chapter in our Company’s transformation is our foray into electric vehicles (EVs). We have established ourselves as a key manufacturer of stator and rotor cores—critical components of EV motors. Globally, only a handful of companies outside China have the capability to produce these high-end components, and Mahindra Accelo has joined this elite group.

Building on our leadership in stator and rotor cores for air conditioning and industrial applications—where it commands a 33% market share—our Company leveraged expertise to develop high-efficiency motors for EVs and hybrid vehicles.

With the EV revolution accelerating, OEMs are seeking reliable domestic suppliers, and Mahindra Accelo is poised to be a preferred partner. “We will be supplying to major OEMs in the country,” says Issar, signalling our growing prominence in India’s EV ecosystem. Additionally, with global demand for EV components surging, we are eyeing export opportunities, positioning itself as a key player in advanced manufacturing.
