Mahindra Accelo (then M&M Intertrade division) setup India’s First Independent Steel service center at Kanhe, near Pune. This was setup in collaboration with Japanese companies - Mitsubishi Corporation and Nissho Iwai Corporation which later merged to become Metal One Corporation.
Mahindra Accelo (then M&M Intertrade division) started processing of electrical steel (CRGO) through expansion at Kanhe plant. Diversifying and entering into a new business vertical which is now a major contributor for Mahindra Accelo.
In 1998-99, Mahindra’s Intertrade Division achieved trading volume of 130,000 tonnes of steel. It had a nationwide marketing network with branches at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad. With future growth prospects, a new company Mahindra Intertrade Limited was formed as a subsidiary of M&M.
